Free Fall by Kyle Mills

Tristan Newberry, a law school dropout, was working in a low-level government job in Misplaced Documents looking for some FBI document lost eons ago in the Ag Department‘s storage facility. He found the files and opened them. Oops….

He was out on a climbing trip in West Virginia with Darby Moore, his ex-girlfriend and world-class rock climber. They were attacked; but Tristan told her about the files he’d found and buried before he was killed in Darby’s van to make it look like she murdered him. So she’s on the run since the bad guys think she has the file or knows where it is.

Mark Beamon is a suspended FBI Special Agent threatened with prosecution by the Bureau for exposing some shady politics (nice thanks for a job well done). A high price lawyer approaches him with a deal to look for Darby, but doesn’t reveal whom he’s representing. Action builds from West Virginia to Thailand to snow packed Wyoming to Washington DC. The file is rather nasty and takes its toll.

This is a fast-paced book with climbing thrills and bad politicians and their associates.
