Hidden Prey Yes, this is another Lucas Davenport story set mostly in and around Duluth, MN. Its now about six months since Naked Prey, and Lucas is still working at the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and still fixing shit for the governor. A Russian has been killed on a dock in Duluth. Hes alleged to have been an agent for the KGB. There was a witness to the killing, a thirty-ish homeless woman. The killer tries to find her, but her coat is on another homeless person, so the wrong woman is killed. Unfortunately, this is not the end of the killing spree. Of course, Lucas must find the killer. Working with him is a Duluth cop, Jerry Reasons, and Nadya, a Russian spy whose job it is to see what the FBI and Duluth cops are doing about this murder. They run all over the Minnesota countryside trying to find the killer and hit on a Russian spy ring. Lucas even hears from the homeless woman. The reader knows whodunit early on (which spoiled it for me), and the story revolves around Lucas finding the killer. Personally, I prefer trying to figure out who did the nasty deed along with the main character. Unfortunately the twists and turns in this book are somewhat predictable. There are a few loose ends, so perhaps the next Prey book will pick up where this one left off, as well as provide another delightful Davenport family scene. |
