The Conspiracy Club

Dr. Jeremy Carrier is a psychologist at City Central Hospital in a large, unnamed midwestern city on a lake. He’s getting over the violent death of his live-in lover. The cops bug him as a prime suspect, especially when other women are found dead. He has started dating Dr. Angela Rios, a resident at the same hospital.

Dr. Arthur Chess, the eccentric pathologist at the hospital, has started giving Jeremy attention he doesn’t particularly want. Asking strange questions, taking him to a strange dinner with other intellectuals, then leaving town mysteriously.

Jeremy has also been receiving strange items in his hospital mail and tends to consider Dr. Chess responsible for them, but why? After the fifth mysterious piece of mail arrives, Jeremy does more research on the Internet, and thinks he’s figured out who’s been doing the local killings. He decides to follow the man, but another woman is killed while Jeremy was watching him. So who’s the killer?

It takes the whole book to build to the quick climax…no twists or turns to keep you guessing or keep your interest. And of course, any citizen in their right mind will go after a killer on their own without contacting the police. Duh! But at least Jeremy was welcomed into the Central Conspiracy Club. In my humble opinion, this was not one of Mr. K’s better books.
