Two plots, told side by side, converging at the end. Good writing strategy.

Side one: Lucy Dockery and her son, Elijah, have been kidnapped so her father, a wealthy judge, will release a known nasty criminal. A year ago, Lucy’s mother and husband were killed in a car crash and she’s still in serious depression. Will she have enough wits about her to escape before their death sentence is carried out? The lowlifes paid to carry out the kidnapping are an evil, torturous family who has this area of South Carolina firmly in their greedy control.

Side Two: Winter Massey, a former US Marshall, is called on by his FBI good friend, Alexa Keen, to help her find the Dockery’s since the judge has been told not to call the police. Winter agrees to help Alexa, but soon realizes she got secrets she’s not sharing with him about the case. Will he be able to save Lucy and Elijah in spite of the roadblocks put in front of him?
