Why Me © 2005 by Bob Miller

Sometimes there are obvious reasons for whom the bell tolls. Other times these hardships and heartaches show up at the most illogical doorstep. The question, “Why do you think it happened?” is the best answer you can give a person who approaches you with, “Why me?”

I joined the Army to fly medivac missions in Vietnam after I had been honorably discharged from the Air Force. As my luck would have it, my aircraft was shot down twice in the first sixty days of my tour; consequently, I had to undergo five back surgeries. My wife and dog were shot to death. I have never smoked or drunk alcohol, and have tried to maintain a healthy life style, yet I ended up with inoperable cancer. I guess I could ask, “Why me?” but why, when there are so many other worthwhile things I could be doing?
